Hallways Lead to Open Doors

Can a hallway be beautiful? That is the question I asked myself this morning. The reason being, in life at this moment, I feel I am in the hallway.....waiting for the door(s) to open.

What is a hallway? It is defined as a passage in a building from which doors lead INTO rooms. Ah ha....it leads to open doors.

As I sit in the hallway, which seems to be a very long hallway, I can't help but think how I can make it beautiful and enjoy being here. Waiting on God and his direction is hard. I get impatient . I get frustrated. But, I know that His plans for me are good. So, while I'm in the hallway, waiting for the open door(s), I will wait with expectancy. I will make it a beautiful place.

In a physical hallway, to make it beautiful, add paint, family pictures, mirrors, paintings, lighting, rugs, chairs, and tables.

Enjoy your day! Make it count.

My Adventures With Photoshop

This week I completed a project using photoshop. This was my second week in that class and WOW! I love it and hate it all at the same time. I know once I get the hang of it, it will be an awesome and most helpful tool.
In this weeks project, I had to take a photo of a contemporary living room:
and change it with the inspiration being a chosen fruit. I chose the mangosteen. It is a tropical, warm climate fruit found mostly in Southeast Asia. We cannot find it fresh here in the states but you can find juice made from it. It is suppose to be very beneficial health wise. I just love the deep, rich colors.
And here are the changes I made.
I changed the wall to the deep plum color of the skin of the mangosteen. The couch was changed to green to represent the color of the stem and was covered in a soft velvet. Red chairs and accents were added to represent the rind. White was used for the shag rug and sheer window treatments to represent the inside, which is sweet and tart. I added a few accessories along with changing the cabinets on the wall to a book shelf.
And the finish board looks like this:
Heading to Wilmington tomorrow for a much needed restful weekend :)
Until the next project........

Project One

First week of school and we were already given a project, a finish board. For this project we worked in pairs. My partner was Johanna. She is a lovely girl with a degree in textiles. Her dad is a pastor so we had a bond, although we have totally different styles.  We worked very well together on this project. Here is the picture we were given.

We had to create a finish board for this transitional style bathroom with mint green, white, and hunter green tiles, gold fixtures, etc. Not a very attractive bathroom at all. Here is what we came up with.

So, project one is complete. Working on project two.

So Blessed!

I started this blog, well over a year ago, and posted one time. Sad, I know. Life got busy, very busy. I started back to school after 17 years....full time! A preschool teacher/children's director turned interior designer, (a life long love of mine that I got from my mom).

My last post was "So Distressed". I love distressing furniture and making old things new again. I too was made new by our precious Jesus Christ. I was reminded of my favorite scripture this morning in Jeremiah, "For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future". I am "So Blessed" because my loving father has given me hope and I am excited to see what the future holds for me and my family. Bring it on 2013. I am ready!!

I will be posting about my journey through design school and what I learn along the way. You will see some of the crazy projects that I have done (and will do) for my classes. I will also be posting about my own design projects and how to make design simple and functional for everyday like, but yet trendy and chic.
